We were very proud of Alice tonight as she passed the Bronze Kennel Club Good Citizen Award and went straight on to do the Silver test that she passed on the same night so we have now got two certificates and rosettes to show off . We are planning to start the Gold course with her in October.

We are lucky people who now own Willow's daughter, Yasmin (now called Molly). She is a complete delight and much admired wherever we go. She is kind, loving and very obedient, getting on well with all humans and dogs. We got her at 2 years old but she settled so well, I have had labs for the last 34 years and would recommend anybody who wants a lab to approach Widgerwood.

Just want to say a really big thank you for adding to our family with your adorable Ella. Despite a very long journey home due to M4 problems, she travelled brilliantly - but was understandably ravenous when we got home.
She is so biddable and has made herself instantly at home.
She passed her veterinary examinations with no problems - and even agreed to the slightly ignominious procedure of z bath in the Belfast sink - filling it nicely!
We feel enriched and really blessed.

Just an update on Daisy, shes doing really well.Shes such a funny little dog, and so lovely. Im enjoying her immensly. We went to the beach in south devon last weekend, she loves the sea. She was doing huge circles on beach going in and out of the sea. So funny. Took her to pets at home the other day to go and get some stuff and it took us ages to get around because everyone kept stopping to touch her and say what a lovely dog she is.

Dylan grew so much just in the first week.. He is an absolutely bundle of energy. Loves playing in the garden and has gone for his first walk (booster jab completed last Wednesday) this week. This took some time as we bumped into lots of people I knew and they all had to have a fuss, which he loves.
The vet thought he was totally gorgeous and would be very easy to train. He was great at the vets, not frightened at all. I did come armed with lots of treats, which he ate. Now that we can take him out we will be taking him to puppy socialisation classes. Our next door neighbour (Poppy who came with us to pick him up) have a spaniel and friends over the road have a retriever so he has met a few already. I think the training classes are for me not him as I have forgotten how to do it.
We absolutely adore him, as you can probably tell. He has a very gentle temperament and is very cuddly.We will be down to my dad's in the summer and would love to come by and visit if this is ok?

I would just like to coment on your website, this is one of the best site i have come across, full of information about your dogs, you made us so special when we came to see your babies, we were so impressed with the puppy room, and your babies are wonderful, your dogs are gorgeous, they really are a credit to you. To see your girls running total free in the fields was great we have taken so lovely pictures to treasure until we come again to take our baby home.

Thanks so much for yet another fantastic, loving, bright eyed intelligent boy. Ryan has settled in so well it's as if he was born here!Loving his life here in Melin Court with his equally gorgeous big brother, Alex (son of Chaos, formerly known as Alfie...)
The boys are soul mates, and spend so much time together and get very upset when I part them for "night nights". Ryan has mastered commands, "sit" "paw" and the best one of all, "tickle belly" when he promptly lies on his back and waits for his tickles. He sleeps through the night, is fully house trained and loves his lead. He has had small walks but gets so annoyed when his brother is allowed to swim in the river, but he has to watch and just paddle.
I can't begin to say how happy he has made our home. Our four kids adore him and we are now a complete family.

Milly too is going to sit by the back door when wanting to go out to toilet - quite how she does this i dont know! We have started her on walking round the garden on her lead which so far is going well, Milly is a clever girl!! She is sleeping through the night and certainly lets us know when it is breakfast time. The little snow we have had hasnt caused her any problems at all, just something else to explore
The firm NO works well - thank you!! Milly seems to have noticably grown over the last few days and goes from a mad hour to lots of sleep .
Just acouple of questions today - what sort of weight is ideal for age? And also how much time do they spend sleeping??

Realised I have had Charlie 5 years today, the time has just flown, best thing I ever did, just love her. Feel a bit guilty as now have to work at the office rather than at home, but come home every lunch time and have her walked three times a week just to break her day up. Think she actually likes it so she can just snooze the day away. Have to say she is a bit on the lazy side, when I say "walk" no reaction, if I say "Biscuit" a very different reaction!!
When we lived in Cyprus she would even take herself off to visit a neighbour "Biscuit Ray" only time she has left my side. Real panic the first time it happened, there she was having biscuits on the lawn with Ray.

Gracie is settling in very well in her new home. She is so well behaved and seems very confident and brave!! I have attached a couple of pics taken yesterday. I hope you can open them.
She went to the vets this morning and was given a 'clear bill of health' and will have her first vacinations next week.

Dear Ladies,
Thank you very much for our electronic card. It was lovely. Well our little angel 'Poppy' is now almost 5 months old, and we can't believe how quickly she is growing. It only seems like yesterday that she was a small pup. She is wonderful company for both of us, and we certainly do a lot more walking now than we did before; which is not a bad thing. We are certainly glad that we have her, and the children think that she is fantastic.

Delighted with Saffy's photos on your website and yes she is a proper madam, very strong willed and I have had to make her a proper seat in between us in the motor home as I would have lost my seat, she insists on being on her throne for the whole journey and takes great interest in everything. She is well travelled and has a high milage already. When we had her she fitted in the well in the dashboard and as she grew would insist on being up front and would even interfere with the driving by standing on her hind legs with paws on steering wheel to see out so she had to have her own seat, as you can see on the photo she still changes gears. Well I hate to tell you this but it's like he's always been here!!!!!!
He slept in the foot well at my feet all the way home, has been fed and watered and runs round the garden like a nutter. He loves the girls and is now fast asleep and snoring by the oven, even though his den is up and running....... Oh and he's had 2 wees and a poo in the back garden.
He's absolutely gorgeous and seems to love Daddy more than Mummy, not happy about that :-)

We fully understand what you are going through, Jo had to re-home two dogs when she met me - feel terrible about that now as I could never give up any of the ones we have now.
From the instant we got Silas home we knew we would adore him, everything about him, his looks, his beautiful smile, his wonderful nature makes us feel both humbled and priviledged to be allowed to have him. He is having the most wonderful time with Ana and indeed all the dogs have accepted him easily.

Alfie is rapidly approaching 6 months old - so as promised, here's an update on how he's doing, what he's been up to and also some pics that so that you can see him in action...............Alfie is in rude health, full of energy and always ready to play with Charlie our 15mth old chocolate lab. He's very cute and is going to be a very handsome dog... I've never seen an animal eat so quickly - he can hoover up his meals in nano-seconds, I've got him trained on the basics - he's a quick learner and seems to enjoy putting his intelligence to work in the mischief department - the current favourite trick being popping the bin lid in the kitchen and sorting the non edible contents from the edible - as you know, a Labs definition of edible is pretty wide ranging so I've taken to putting the bin out of harms way at night.Gary Parke

Hope you are all well. It's lovely weather down here in Somerset at the moment and the bluebells look stunning.
Gina and Bliss are both really well and are both totally gorgeous. Now they are both going to be 3 this year!! (it seems only a moment ago Bliss was tiny) we are embarking on tooth cleaning lessons - not cos they have dirty teeth but as they get older I think its a good idea - Bliss loves it but Gina is a little more reserved about the idea.
They both have settled to having hens in the garden really well and are both really good with them although the chickens are fenced off for safety. Bliss is really good at stealing eggs if you put them down for a moment to do something but has never cracked one yet - when she does I suspect she will soon learn they are tasty!
They are both absolutely super and we love them to bits.

Hi! This is the little girl who picked Chip up on my Birthday, Paul's daughter, Billie. I just wanted to tell u that Chip is really growing, he looks a lot like Moose! I was wondering if when we come up I could stroke Moose? He is really like Chip, Chip's really funny, He is a bit naughty, like he pulls on the lead a bit, but we are teaching him. He can 'Lie Down', 'Sit' 'Paw' and he is sort of getting the hang of 'Other Paw'. I look at your website all the time. I think your bassets are really cute, Lace is reall cute too. I will have to try send you some pictures of Chip, I will ask my Dad to help me lol.

Silk has really settled in with our way of life and thoroughly enjoys her morning walks especially at the weekend when they tend to last a couple of hours each day. She responds well to the whistle I use and enjoys retrieving her ball and has learnt to search for it when I ask her to.
She is maturing well and each day she looks more and more like her Dad. She is very fit and healthy and I watch her diet as I do with Rio.
She does make us laugh. One minute she is a Princess next she is a bulldozer!

Well that's a week now since Olive joined our gang and I have to say we have all fallen in love with her.
She has settled in really well and is getting on great with Molly our other Lab.
She got a full bill of health from the vets. She is being really good at night also. For the last 3 nights she has slept right through, which is fab.

It does not seem possible that it is still less than a week since we collected our nearly six month old puppy Alice from you. Alice has settled wonderfully well. Anyone would think that she had been with us for years. She is a really sweet gentle little thing who loves everyone: people and animals alike, and has just taken everything in her stride. Alice is getting on very well with our 11 year old retired Labrador/Retriever Guide dog, Zena who has become a good adopted grand-mother to her. We have been to a junior adult training class with Alice and she is so intelligent that she has already gone beyond what we were taught in our first lesson. Without being asked, Zena demonstrated what the trainer was trying to get Alice to do and she then cottoned on very quickly. We have taken Alice out to eat with us several times to a variety of different places and she has been remarkably well behaved. People are amazed when we tell them that she is not quite six months yet and we have only had her a few days. One lady at the table next to us commented that we have ' the perfect dog' and we certainly agree.

We were fortunate enough to have Dear Skye from you two years ago and we just have to say what a lovely sweet natured girl she is, she loves everyone all the children that come to visit the postman delivery drivers the lot!!!! she has seen foster dogs come and go and we recently inherited and old border collie and a little cross breed, Skye has taken them all under her wing. she washes the cats gives her bed up for anyone and all in all is a real darling. I have THE most gorgeous new addition to my family in the form of Alex, our black Lab! That makes five children in all! Alex came to live with us on Monday 9th June 2008 and i am hard pressed now to imagine our home and life without him in it. He is such a fantastic creature with the charisma to challenge those of George Clooney and James Bond. He has impeccable manners and a lovely disposition with the children. He has made lost of human friends, but more importantly he has a canine friend called Beauty who is a collie cross. She really puts him in his place when they are together. What a great site, you can see you care about your dogs whether they are with you or with their new owners. You are always on the end of the phone if i need help with my dog, you don't get that with a lot of breeders as soon as they take you money that's the last they want to hear from you. I would just like to say a big thank you to both you and Denise for your time, patience and advice. For those reading this entry one of Vicky's older pups has joined our family as a pal for our other lab Rio who will be 5 in May. He is a big strong black lab and now we have a gorgeous yellow girl to keep him on his toes. It is a mark of the high standard of breeding at Widgerwood that the new addition has settled in so quickly. She has been with us now for four weeks and she has been absolutely remarkable. Nothing has fazed her from the very start, washing machine, tumble dry, etc have never bothered her. She walks side by side with Rio on a lead and has never been worried by passing traffic when walking on a pavement. She is now 7 months old has been the easiest and most well balanced dog to train that i have owned. Vicky, i am sure that your love for animals and dogs in particular rubs off on all your charges and makes it that much easier for them to settle into their new homes. Firstly, i would like to say the biggest thank you ever, we have been looking for a Labrador puppy for a very long time, after losing our old boy. Going to kennels and looking and always coming away with nothing. Morse has only been with us since the beginning of November, but he has settled in really well and feels like part of the family. We takes it in turns to walk him and if he is lucky he goes in the car to Epping Forest, where he can runoff lead. He's been swimming in Conaught Waters twice - very smelly !! We weren't planning to have another lab, as we have a 10 year old chocolate. Then we met Ebony, as her name suggest she is a black lab, eight years old this month (Nov) She joined our family just before Easter this year and has brought much laughter and sunshine into our lives. Lass our choc, has lost weight and had a second lease of life and they love going for walks together in the forest and down the beach - and stand back when they see water - Ebony is a real water baby !

I have been watching and waiting for an update on your sister site, makes very interesting reading. I cannot believe that these people are judges of the basset breed. They should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves. At least people can read for themselves the disgrace they have caused themselves. I love being the very proud owner of Bobby a very special Widgerwood Labrador. He arrived home with me on Monday the 2nd October after a very long car journey which he slept most of the time he never complained once. We stopped for a couple of breaks for him to drink and wee and he just took the journey in his stride. He has not left my side he accompanies me to work and now when i get the car out he sits waiting to get in and the little harness he wears in the car he patiently sits whilst it is clipped in. Friends and family love him to bits and he receives them all graciously he; a big hit with our family.

We were looking for a chunky big looking Labrador for 3 months, i sent out over 30 emails to selected breeders and was really impressed with the email i had back from Victoria. She was extremely knowledgeable and you can tell that she loved her dogs!! We reserved a dog and met him on Saturday and he was without doubt the most beautiful little boy i have ever seen, defiantly worth traveling from Brighton to Wales! The owners are both lovely, very caring and respectful of their animals and know the breed back to front, we were very impressed with everything.
